Tax Assessments

Tax Assessments are in. They've gone up so are you happy or sad? On the happy side it's nice to know your property was worth more in July 09 than in July 08. On the sad side, if yours rose more than the average your taxes will rise more than the average, not accounting for the tax increase the local gov't adds in anyway. To check your value as against other similar homes in your area go to www.bcassessment.bc.ca If you want to appeal your assessment you need to have a supporting argument, then you apply to the Court of Revision prior to the end of January. Keep in mind the assessment is for the value of your property as of July 1st 2010 not January 1st 2011. You need to show that your actual value is wrong, it's not good enough to be out of line with your neighbourhood if you're still at demonstrable value for the July 01, 2009 date.
